Google Business Profile allows businesses and networks to showcase and manage their business information. Google pulls data from multiple sources:

As a result, mentions from the business's website or customer reviews may appear on the listings.

What Types of Mentions Can Appear on Google Business Profile?

There are four types of mentions that may appear on Google Business Profile:

  • Review Mention

  • Website Mention

  • Available Here Mention

  • Google Post Mention

Review Mention

  • This is the most common mention and appears in the local pack or on Google Maps.

  • To benefit from this, the business needs a significant number of reviews, so staff at the point of sale should encourage customers to leave reviews on Google after their visit.

  • Relevant terms between the user's query and the highlighted review will appear directly on the results page. This increases the business's relevance and improves the click-through rate.

Website Mention

  • The "Website Mention" also appears in the local pack or on Google Maps with the phrase "Their website mentions."

  • To benefit from this mention, the searched term must be present on the website and readable by Google. Therefore, the site's structure should be optimised so that the search engine can understand that a page corresponds to the business represented by the Google Business Profile.

  • If a user sees that the terms they're searching for are included on the business's website, the click-through rate on the listing will likely increase, as the business will be considered more relevant.

"Available Here" Mention

  • This mention is also visible in the local pack or on Google Maps.

  • It originates from user contributions when they respond to questions asked by Google after visiting the business.

  • If a user searches for a specific product and it is mentioned on the Google Business Profile, they can be confident that the product is sold at the associated business, making them more likely to visit the location.

"Google Post" Mention

  • This mention appears when one of the posts published on the Google Business Profile contains terms that match the user's query.

  • Like the previous mentions, this makes the business more relevant in the eyes of the user, while also increasing the visibility of the post.

To benefit from these mentions and improve visibility, it is crucial that the listing is complete and regularly updated. A business that hasn't optimised its local SEO won't appear in the top Google results, even if its reviews or website contain the exact terms used in the user's query.
